Shock Wave Therapy

What is shockwave?

Shockwave therapy are audible, low energy sound waves which target specific damage tissues within abnormal tendons. This is considered to increase blood flow to the injured are reducing pain, stimulating cell regeneration and healing.

Shockwave is commonly used for conditions which have may not have responded to traditional therapies and treatments.

Patients still need to be assessed as to they’re suitability for shockwave as there are some contraindications (see bottom of the post here). It is also important to note you must carry on with rehabilitation on the advice of your therapist and not rely solely on shockwave to restore strength and mobility.

It is commonly used for the following conditions:

> Achilles tendinopathy

> Patella tendinopathy

> Calcific tendinopathy of the shoulder

> Plantar fasciitis

>Proximal hamstring tendinopathy

>Tennis and golfers elbow

> Trochanteric hip pain often known as glute medius or Trochanteric bursitis

We offer competitive prices for shockwave therapy and some private health insurance companies will cover the cost e.g AXA PPP & Bupa (please check with your individual provider or ask us)
